Children And Teens Are Increasingly Becoming Obese- By: Karg Sung

Description : Press coverage is something that childhood obesity has been getting a lot of for a long time. But this has made almost no difference, even in the US where it has reached epidemic proportions.

We are not here to discuss how it happens or who is to blame as we all know what the causes are. In a child's later years this obesity or even just being overweight can have major health risks that can even be life-threatening. Suffering physically and even psychologically is what a noticeable percentage of an entire generation experience. Being a teen is hard enough without having to put up with being bullied about their weight by peers. In this day there are some things obese children have to face and we are going to look closer at these.

Yes, we mentioned Type II diabetes because it is right up there as a real possibility for obese children, teens and adults. Of course, it does make a certain sum of sense that it might happen. Type II is different from Type I in that sometimes Type II diabetes can be prevented. Primary risk factors for this kind of diabetes are weight issues like obesity and a prolonged sedentariness. What happens, at least for those who are obese, is that the weight puts an added demand for insulin on the body. There is obviously, in this situation, a far greater amount of person who needs the hormone. Then, in time the body simply becomes resistant to insulin and Type II occurs.

Pretty much anybody who is obese is forced to deal with a bunch of psychological challenges. When it seems like all of the kids in your class abuse you every day, that will cause serious stress, anxiety, low self esteem, poor to zero self confidence and maybe even hatred toward self or others. Those are all silent symptoms that obese children and teenagers endure and often without any help. If the situation gets severe enough and goes on long enough the child may even start to develop sociopathic behaviors. We haven't found any significant data on how many obese high school kids go on to get a college education. We're willing to bet that there are a lot more obese high school students than college students. Would that really be surprising since so many are probably worried about enduring even more years of torture and abuse?

The socialization process and development of a person's individuality and personality accelerates during the teen age years. The development of the teen's body image is also at a critical point. Obviously an obese teen will have an extraordinarily difficult time achieving any semblance of normal development in those areas. This causes a teenager to leave high school at distinct developmental disadvantages. Normal competition and success levels will be far more challenging for these kids.

These children need to lose this weight so we think that it is a good idea for them to have an emergency plan of action. We know that for each of these children their situations are different. Although this situation has avoided being reversed, it is very serious.
